One of my favorite things EVER is juicing oranges and blending the juice with frozen pineapple. OMG, you guys. You get this deliciously refreshing, ice-cold, sweet drink perfect for breakfast or a summer afternoon cool-down. It’s tropical, juicy, and so freaking yummy! I could drink it every day. Plus, it’s so easy to do! Especially if you don’t juice your own oranges. But that’s how I prefer it. Totally up to you though.
Blueberry Pie Smoothie
I wanted something fresh, sweet, and really delicious, and a smoothie usually quenches that. Blueberries are a main staple in my diet, and they’re also fresh, sweet, and really delicious. So I figured I’d start there – with a blueberry pie smoothie. Smoothies are so refreshing! And it’s already heating up here in Phoenix, so this hits the spot.
(Sorry to the people who are experiencing snow! This was scheduled weeks in advance. My apologies.)
Cashew Milk
This cashew milk is my absolute favorite. It’s sweetened from dates, and it doesn’t need to be strained! If you’ve ever made almond milk (or read a recipe about almond milk and decided NO), then you know how not fun straining milk is. I’m SOOOO all about whatever’s easiest, and cashew milk is soooo easy! Plus, it’s forgiving and customizable. So let’s do this.
Golden Milk Latte
Finally, a recipe where the turmeric I add isΒ not optional! I put turmeric in nearly everything, but this drink isn’t golden milk without it.
If you aren’t familiar with golden milk, let’s chat. It’s a yummy drink made with your (nondairy) milk of choice + turmeric (the golden part) + black pepper and a healthy fat (for turmeric absorption). You can spice it up with cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cardamom, etc. Sweetening is my preferred method, so I add dates to the mix. And the healthy fat is usually oil, but I’m a no-oil kinda gal, so here’s my take on a creamy, dreamy golden milk latte.
Tropical Green Smoothie
I aim to have a green smoothie every day. Does that happen? No. Of course not. Haha. I love to bake, so I inevitably end up doing that instead of making a smoothie. The good thing is that I usually put flax, walnuts, and turmeric in most of the things I bake, which is mostly why I like to make green smoothies: so I can hide those things and get them into my diet.
Watermelonade
Hey, y’all. It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? I’m excited to be back though. I have lots and lots on my plate, but amazing-fruit season is upon us, so the energy to do it all is at my fingertips! Seriously, summertime fruit is my favorite. And I know a lot of you are experiencing snow right now, so summer isn’t even on your radar, but I live in Chronic Summer, a.k.a. Phoenix, Arizona. So it’s always on mine. Even though today is cloudy and, well, not hot.
#TradeInTuesday – Milk
A word to the wise: it obviously won’t taste just like dairy milk. So if you’re looking for a direct substitute, you might have to try to make your own almond milk or rice milk to get what you’re looking for. Coconut milk is much creamier, almond milk is a little thick but bland if you go for the unsweetened kind, and flax milk tastes like melted vanilla ice cream. So you have a lot to choose from. π
But if you’re health conscious, you might want to stick to making your own non-dairy milk. Check out these recipes below.
- 1 cup raw almonds
- 4 cups filtered water
- Soak almonds in filtered water overnight. Drain and rinse almonds.
- Place almonds and filtered water in blender. Blend on high for 1 minute.
- Strain almond milk through a nut milk bag or cheese cloth. Squeeze bag or cloth to get all almond milk.
- Store in refrigerator and serve cold.
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 4 cups filtered water
- Place ingredients in a blender. Blend for 1 minute or until smooth.
- Store in refrigerator and serve cold.
Chocolate Smoothie
I make smoothies a lot. Just about every day. They’re a staple in my diet because they’re quick, simple, filling, and delicious. And they’re a great way to hide the stuff we don’t want to eat separately because of taste (think turmeric, flax/chia, greens, etc.). We can make them taste like chocolate and enjoy it so much more! Here’s a recipe I make almost on the daily for breakfast or lunch.
Pumpkin Pie Smoothie
My sweet friend Tammy posted a recipe for a pumpkin pie smoothie, and I thought it sounded incredible. As you may or may not know, I make a smoothie almost every day, sometimes twice a day. It’s almost always a green smoothie with lots of bananas, so the idea of adding pumpkin and spice to it intrigued me. So here’s what I did. Enjoy!
